Hi it's been like a couple days since the wednesday double block and I haven't had a computer for a couple days so I've forgotten what we did. If anyone could comment below and remind me what we did in the first period it would be very well appreciated! Thank you.

Learning blog for December 17 block 2

What:
 In the second block of humanities we worked on our book reviews and if we were not done our paragraph booklet we worked on this too. We also worked on our commercial about our books as if we were trying to sell them.

Why:
We did our book reviews to give us information about the book to advrative it with. We did the commercial to show mrs.lees that we understand and can show that we know. It gives us a chance to have a fun book review commercial instead of having to write a tests about it.

Homework:
Finish your paragraph booklet if you are not done and finish your commercial in flex but we are getting time during class tomorrow.

what did we do
On Monday we worked on our paragraph booklet number 3 expository paragraph and number 4 persuasive paragraph exercise. Expository paragraph is when it gives lots a information with details, accurate and organised. Persuasive paragraph is when a paragraph argues a point and convince them to think in a different way.

learning intentions
We do paragraph booklet so our paragraphs are very strong and writing lots of paragraphs  leads to good essays and more.
connections
Connections beyond humanities are that we use paragraphs all the time and having to write a proper paragraph will help when we grow up!
homework
Administrators! I think we should decorate our blog like other classmates' group blogs.

What

Today in humanities we did the pros and cons for our book and lets Ms. Lees review them. We also used are pros and cons to make up a script to make a commercial. The commercial was to sell our book to target audiences.

Why

We do the pros and cons to build our reading skills and critiquing skills. We film in groups to build our collaborative skills. Most of the reasons for both of them are to build up reading skills.

Homework

The homework is to finish all the paragraphs in the booklet with outlines and brainstorming. Tomorrow you must finish the filming.

Homework tips

Tomorrow you can come early to finish the filming or flex.

Learning Logs 2014-12-12

I am posting this on Sunday because I had forgot to do it on Friday.

What did we do: We did out lit circle discussions with out groups today. Today was the last one as we finished the book today (for my group at least).

Learning Intentions: We did these lit circle discussions to further expand on our understanding of literature and things in literature.

Reflections and Connections: Being able to understand a book very well is helpful in school book reports and reading books yourself. Reading a book for it's action is nice, but reading a book for more than just the action and for the deeper meaning within is very satisfying. Discussing could also help with speaking skills that are needed in the world. Without having good discussion skills than you won't really be able to get any job where you have to be publicly speaking a bit.

Homework Reminders: As far as I know there is no homework due for Monday, except for the three words, a sentence, and the two(three?) critique comments.

Ronald's Three Words

                My three words are activity, organization, focus.

                My first word is activity; I chose this word for the purpose of being more active. In being more active I mean in the community and myself as since the summer ended I have stopped exercising as much and doing good things in the community. I feel that I could be more active in many places

My second word is organization. I chose this word because I need to be more organized in many areas of my life. At home and inside my backpack it is very messy so I feel that I could organize why working spaces better. Organization could also count for time because I organize my time badly. Organizing my time better could help me sleep more, better and have an overall better effect.

My third word is focus. In class sometimes I won’t understand or remember things that we did in class. If I had focused during these times then I could have gotten better marks on almost everything. Focusing better in school can help me with many things not just marks.

My Three Words...

My three words are Organization, Responsibility and Diet. Organization because I am really bad at staying organized. Responsibility because I am not responsible for most things. Diet because i feel like I eat too much.

3 words

For my 3 words I chose  exercise, neatness and productivity. I chose exercise because I don’t exercise much and it I a needed component to life. I chose neatness because I am very bad at organizatizing school work. I had the messiest desk! For my last word I chose productivity. I chose productivity because I hurry my work. The productivity of my work needs to improve.

Learning blog for December 10 in second block

What

We watched videos on classes doing a project called what's my sentence. Also we wrote out 3 goal words like new year resolutions and gave reason.

Why

We watched the videos of the other classes to give us ideas of what our sentence is because we are planning on doing the project too. We wrote out 3 goal words to try something new instead of New Years resolutions to give us something that may work better so instead of trying to do a whole bunch of individual things you narrow it down to 3 word goals and by the end of the year you want to have accomplished.

Homework

For homework due this Friday we had to write out our three goal words and post them on the blog. Also we had to come up with our sentences.

I'm Ashley and I'm a grade 8 student
The 3 words that I chose are talkative, creative, and effort.

I want to be talkative because I’m shy to people who I don’t really talk to and I don’t like to speak in front of a large group of people. Being creative is a great skill for everyone. I want to be creative so I can choose a topic that is creative and have more creative ideas. I also want to put more effort in works so I can do better. Putting in effort is important to all of us.

Flexibility:

I want to get more flexible. I want to get my left leg pull, my right bow and arrow and my middle splits down. I want to become more flexible to help me get more sots or a higher level in cheer.

Confidence:

I want to become more confident. I am a pretty quiet person and I think it's because I'm not that confident in myself. I want to be louder, talk to new people and make more friends. Or when I'm presenting in front of my class I get scared, mess up or stutter. I want to try and break those habits.

Focus:

I want to be more focused. I tend to zone out a lot or day dream when I should be paying attention. If I'm more focused maybe I can finish my homework faster and take less home because I finish it in class.

What

On Friday we learned about making an outline and how to build writing skills with TOWER.

Outlines have one main idea with some supporting ideas (in point form). Some examples can be included as supporting ideas. Conclusion is an overall for the main idea.

Tower

T- Think about what you want to do.

O- Organize notes or make an outline to help organize.

W- Write first draft.

E- Edit any mistakes in writing.

R- Rewrite the draft.

Why

We learned about this so in the future we can write better essays or any writings. This also may help writing skills through humanities

What

On wendnesday in humanities we filled out our self assesments. We explained what some of the self assesments ment as in what were the expectations for them. We had to grade our selfs at where we think we are at the tasks (secure, developing and beginning) and then we had to give a reason why we thought so. We went through the entire booklet and read all the expectations.

Why

We did this so mrs.lees could see where we thought we are at the tasks and so we had to think about what we could improve in or are doing really well in. I also think we did this to make us look back and realize what the tasks we have been useing through out our work so far.

Homework

We have to read our book for Monday and do our self assesments for Friday.

In humanties we discussed more about the blog and where to find things. We also discussed over which template to use for it. One of the last things we discussed was the expectations for listening. our listening skills are very low right now.

Hey guys what did we do today in humanities? I know we discussed about the blog but that was all could think of.

Learning Blog 2014-12-02

Today in class we did our lit circle dialectical journals on each group’s books. Everyone was to discuss the chapters that the group had decided to read. The groups chose 1 quote each related it to themselves or talked about it then asked a few questions. All the while another group is watching them.

We do this every Monday to see our comprehension of the story’s plot/characters meaning and relating the events in the book to events in the world or even our own personal lives.

What we did today can also be put as comprehension and comprehension is important because with no comprehension, you will know nothing so comprehension can relate to all subjects (science, math, humanities)

I don’t think that there is any homework due for Tomorrow (Wednesday) but I have questions about the things that we put into those yellow folders on that day that we had the substitute.

Hey guys, I'm not really sure what to do here but I think I have to post homework...: Dialectical Journal I guess due tomorrow!

Creativity

This picture is really what inspires me to do things outside of my comfort zone. If you look closely you can see that all that the picture is composed of is words. When I saw this I went "wow that must have taken a very long time to complete", and I was correct. I read that the creator of this took over 9 hours to make this. I thought that if a person can sit down for nine hours to create something as difficult as this, than I can also do something outside of my comfort zone that is also difficult for me. This is also a very creative thing to make, This could help me inspire creativity for my genius hour project since it is something that is large scale, something different from what other people have done. There might be some similarities but his idea is different from the others. I feel that this would be kind of like creating a video game(which is my passion project/genius hour project).

Sci-Fi Club (Happy I Went Back)

The Sci-fi club was really interesting when I went back. Everyone was talking about how the "Death Star" was made out of. Some of the people said it was made out of layers of thin metal, others said it is made of small glass particles on the outside layer. I felt like it is a very social club and it was a good idea spending half of my lunch there. We watched about 5 minutes of "Star Wars: A New Hope", we identified what helps Darth Vader breath. I felt like it was a good friend making opportunity and a good laugh on some of the jokes they made. I'm glad I went back!

Julia Fire Hawks Volleyball Last week there were tryouts for the grade 8 girls volleyball team. There was about 35 girls or more trying out for the team. There were only 12 spots on a volleyball team but the coach couldn't cut them all so now there are 14 players on the team. All the girls were amazing, it was sad to see them leave but there can't have a team of 40 girls. The volleyball tryouts were held in the gym by Mrs. Warkenton. They've had their first two games against Holy Cross, P.A, Surrey Christian and Lord Tweedsmere. They are doing great this year! The girls have been working on their over hand serves and all of them have it over. They've also been working on their new rotation. There are 3 positions on the court there is setter, hitter and middle. There are 4 setters, 4 hitters, 5 middles and one alternate. They are all very important parts. One of the 3 back setters, hitters or middles would bump it up to the front setter and the setter sets it up for the hitter to hit over. The setters on the right and the hitters on the left and the middles in the middle. Even though the girls didn't win every game they kept trying and kept a good attitude. They always have a great time playing and the teams playing them always enjoy them selves too. They try there best in every game! Also a lot of the girls know the players on the other teams from other sports. Volleyball is a very fun game but it's not easy. These girls work very hard on the team to do a great job. They practice in school and out perfecting skills and working on attacks. The coach trains them very well. During practice they have fun too and play mini games. They practice working on all the skills through out the mini games. One of the most fun parts about playing on the team is getting to meet all the girls and making friends. I hope to see you at the girls next game to cheer them on and to see you next year at tryouts!

Hello my name is Taiden and I’m reporting about the club I just visited… the save the children club. Where? Mr. Pockocks room. The save the children club has their meeting every Thursday at 11:00 am. Many people really love this club. They also give out t shirts! The point to the save the children’s club is to support children in growing countries. This helps the children grow up healthy and have a successful life. The save the children’s club is for people who like helping people and also it is for people who are kind and are big lovers of running charities. Please support this club it is for a good cause. robotic club (number 4)

    Finding a club to join? Join robotic club! You could make any robots u want. Put them together, program it, and play with it. Some of the good advantages of joining this club is you don’t need to pay, can ask for help anytime, watch people compete with robots and work with new people. Joining any clubs makes your volunteering scores rise try to join at least one club. Although there are a lot of advantages there are some disadvantages too. Such as touching small size pieces and using a computer. If u are not good at using computers everyone is there to help. One thing people don’t like is losing pieces. I personally think making robots are really fun so u should try it. If u have any interest in joining robotic club, come check it out on Thursday lunch time to room 102. I also think Leo club is fun to join because u get to volunteer for something nice. Join robotic or leo clubs!

 

 

These Aliens

These aliens, they are fascinating. They form groups and perform activities with one and another. One of these groups I have taken a personal liking to is in a group called Surrey, inside a larger group called Fraser Heights. This group is intriguing to say the least. They speak against one another in these global debates but in the end are still good friends. It is welcome to all the people in Fraser Heights. My fellow aliens if you search in the galaxy you must look towards this planet and go to this group. It is most intriguing and worth your time. They have many different activities like when you go to certain meetings and say things to other groups and try to win. It is quite fun once you learn how to do the activities in the group. If you have a cloaking device that can make you into a human for a while I suggest that you go and participate in their activities.
